PESHAWAR, July 17: The city police has initiated departmental enquiry against a head constable who was suspended after allegedly taking bribe from a contractor and falsely implicating an aged man and two sisters in a case.

Police Assistant Superintendent Awal Khan, the head of the enquiry body, on Tuesday visited the police guardhouse where Hastnagri Police Station Head Constable Bashir Dad is detained.

Sources told Dawn that Bashir Dad had taken Rs10,000 as bribe from a contractor, who had professional rivalry with Raja Mohammad  Syed Akhtar, owner of Savaira Enterprises in Wah cantonment.

On Friday evening, the head constable with a squad of  Hashtnagri police arrested the contractor and two sisters, Gulshan and Aiasha, when they were having tea at Ameen Hotel, and implicated them in a case. The official contacted the media persons, who published the report with pictures.

“The accused were repeatedly denying the charges,” the sources said and quoted Raja Akhtar as saying that the girls were his friend’s daughters.
