HYDERABAD, July 17: The recovery coordinator, Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), Hyderabad Development Authority, notified here on Wednesday that a crackdown would be launched on the defaulters from July 18.

He appealed to the defaulters to clear their dues in their own interest.

The Wasa recovery coordinator said domestic and commercial defaulters, against whom more than Rs5,000 were outstanding, would be targeted first.

He said the recovery magistrate had already prepared the list of the defaulters who had not responded to the summons and added that arrest warrants would be issued against these defaulters within next few days.

The vigilance teams would impose heavy penalties on the defaulters in addition to disconnecting their water supply, he said.

He said the last date to regularize the illegal connections taken by consumers had already expired and warned that such illegal consumers could be arrested under the 1967 Land Revenue Act.

Directives: The vice chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has directed the engineering wing of the university to complete the repair work of the model school within the stipulated period.

He issued these directives during his surprise visit to the Sindh University’s Dr Nabi Bux Baloch Model School, Hyderabad, on Wednesday to inspect the on-going repair work of the school building.

The in charge, dean, Faculty of Education, Prof Asif Ali Qazi, principal, Akhtar Memon, and other officials concerned were present on the occasion.

The vice chancellor visited all sections and inspected the on-going repair work and also directed the officials concerned to complete the repair work on time.

He further directed the engineering wing to check the repair work from time to time.

The project director of the university briefed the vice chancellor about the on-going repair work of the school building and assured that it would be completed by the end of August.

TEACHERS AWARD: The University Grants Commission, Islamabad, has recommended Prof Dr Qazi Suleman Memon, Dean Faculty of Crop Production, and Prof Dr Ameer Bux Kalhoro, Prof of Surgery and Obstetrics, Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, for the Best University Teachers Award for the year 2001, vide a letter dated July 15 addressed to the vice chancellor of the university by the chairman of the commission.

Dr A. Q. Mughal has informed that the award consisted of a cash prize of Rs40,000 and a certificate of recognition.

The award will be conferred at a ceremony to be held in the auditorium of the University Grants Commission, Islamabad, on July 29.

Those who are going to receive the awards have been asked to be present there on the due date.
