BSF official, 6 others killed in held state

SRINAGAR, July 17: Seven more people, including a senior Indian paramilitary commander, were killed in an upsurge of violence in occupied Kashmir, officials said.

A police spokesman said three pro-India guerillas were killed and nine people injured in a blast at a base of the Ikhwan, a militia backing Indian authorities, at Ashmuqam, 75kms south of Srinagar.

In occupied Jammu, officials reported the death of a senior official of the Border Security Force (BSF) in an encounter with freedom fighters.

A BSF spokesman said an assistant commandant of the force and two Mujahideen were killed in Wednesday’s clash in the district of Poonch.—AFP
