KARACHI, July 15: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead near the party headquarters in Azizabad on Monday afternoon.

The police said that Mohammed Aqil, aged 31, came to Khurshid Memorial Hall near the Muttahida’s headquarters, commonly known as “Nine-zero,” and as he got down from his motorcycle, two armed men, riding on a motorcycle, sprayed him with bullets and sped away.

Aqil was seriously injured. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. He received three bullets in the face, one in the chest and one in a leg.

The dead man was a member of the party’s unit-163, Liaquatabad. He was father of two.

A teenage boy was stabbed to death in his North Nazimabad house.

The police said that Mohammed Imtiaz, aged 18, worked with his uncle Azizullah, a building contractor. He also lived in his uncle house in Khanu goth, a shanty town in North Nazimabad.

Azizullah’s wife told the police that Imtiaz went to work with his uncle on Monday. She also went out for grocery shopping and when she returned, she found her nephew lying in a pool of blood. She didn’t know when Imtiaz returned home. She informed the police, who sent the body to a hospital for post-mortem. Sources at the hospital said that Imtiaz suffered multiple stab injuries.

CARJACKING: Seventeen vehicles — six cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, the police said.

One car was hijacked. Five others were stolen in Sharah-i-Noorjahan, Frere, Artillery Maidan, Risala, and Jamshed Quarters police limits.

Two motorcycles were hijacked and nine other were stolen in Gulistan-i- Jauhar, Orangi Town, Surjani Town, New Town, Baghdadi, Soldier Bazaar, North Nazimabad, and other police limits.

The police also claimed on Monday to have recovered four stolen motorcycles (RNC-3815, KCI-925, KAS-3964, and KAP-410).

ROBBERIES: Four robberies were committed in the city on Monday, the police said.

Bandits barged into the house of Hakim Shah in Sharea Faisal police limits, held the family hostage at gunpoint, and got away with cash, gold jewellery and other valuables.

Five robbers forced their entry into Suleman’s house in Model Colony, Malir, held the family hostage at gunpoint, and looted cash, gold jewellery and other valuables.

Two armed men entered a shop owned by Naeem Meraj in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, and robbed the shopkeeper of cash and valuables.

Bandits intercepted Khushhal Khan at gunpoint in TPX police limits and robbed him of cash and belongings.
