Shoaib skips training

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, July 12: Pacemen Shoaib Akhtar was the notable absentee on the opening day of the training camp that began Friday.

Shoaib attended Thursday’s reception hosted by President Gen Pervez Musharraf for the cricket team. But his absence Friday also surprised team manager Yawar Saeed who was unaware about his whereabouts.

The camp has been set up for the Sept 12 to 21 triangular one-day series in Tangiers.

Skipper Waqar Younis left Friday for England to attend the captains meeting while Abdul Razzaq and Saqlain Mushtaq are participating in the English county championships.

Inzamamul Haq was present in the camp but did not practice as he has yet to fully recover from knee surgery.

“My doctor has advised me one month rest and I will start training from July 20,” Inzamam said.

Those who reported in the camp were:

Saeed Anwar, Imran Nazir, Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan, Yousuf Youhana, Inzamamul Haq, Rashid Latif, Wasim Akram, Azhar Mahmood, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Sami, Misbahul Haq, Danish Kaneria, Faisal Iqbal, Taufiq Umar.
