KARACHI, July 11: In the case of kidnapping of Chinese nationals for ransom, Judge Abdul Ghafoor Memon of the anti-terrorism court No 2 framed charges on Thursday against a cotton exporter from Multan, Khalid Jameel, and Haji Muhammad Iqbal.
The case of the prosecution, represented by M. Ilyas Khan, assisted by Inam Soomro, was that on Jan 6 Khalid Jameel had visited the house of a Chinese national, Mr Wang, and on the pretext of showing some leather samples he took Mr Wang and his minor son Master Zhefue (Jo) in his car.
On the way, near Embassy Hotel, on Sharea Faisal, three persons boarded the car as bandits and accused Khalid Jameel told the Chinese that they had been kidnapped. In fact, Khalid Jameel had arranged all this.
According to the prosecution, he had told the Chinese that he would make the payment to the bandits, which Wang should return him. Mr Wang talked to his wife by phone who agreed to make the payment. On his return from Bahawalpur, Khalid Jameel demanded the money.
Suspecting Khalid Jameel, Mrs Wang had earlier informed police who arrested Khalid Jameel on his arrival from Multan. The court also examined one witness who deposed that upon arrest of Khalid Jameel one pistol, one .22 rifle and a blue light, which police use, was recovered from the car.
