Mujahideen remanded for 14 days

LUCKNOW, July 10: Four suspected Kashmiri mujahideen held for plotting to attack the Israeli embassy and other targets in New Delhi were remanded in custody for 14 days by a court on Wednesday.

The four belong to the Kashmiri group Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and were planning to strike the embassy and other targets in and around New Delhi on August 15, Indian Independence Day, senior police officers told AFP.

The militants arrested on Tuesday have been identified as Saiful Islam, alias Ulfat from the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Taqi, Zafar Alam and Mohammad Rizwan, alias Hyder.

A court in Moradabad remanded the four in police custody for 14 days.

“We are now going to go ahead with more detailed interrogation and recovery while these men are in police remand,” senior Moradabad police officer Rajni Kant Mishra said.—AFP
