KARACHI, July 9: Cargo handling activity at the wharves of the Karachi port remained slow for the second day on Tuesday because of delay in arrivals of ships.
According to KPT the total tonnage handled though showed a slight increase at 26,128 tons from the previous lowest figure of 17,499 tons, is a half of the daily average total of 50,000 tons.
Meanwhile, eight ships including those whose arrivals were delayed are due on Wednesday. They will unload and load containers, palm oil and load molasses.
Owing to slow arrivals, three ships, Kota Wijaya, to unload and load containers, Noblesse and Karine to unload and load general cargo were berthed after the sailing of three.
The ships, which departed included Kota Wijaya, Ernst Rickmers and Iwato, while Kota Indha is due to sail out on Wednesday.
Berth occupancy remained nil at the oil piers for the second day in a row, while it was 37 per cent on the dry wharves.
The following ships including those whose arrivals were delayed are due on Wednesday: Saf Marine Wami, PONL Everst, Bunga Mas Satu, Hammurabi, Sima Kija to unload and load containers, Happy River, to unload and load general cargo, Paros, with palm oil and New Star to load molasses.
