Psychologists asked to help people

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, July 8: A two-day 7th annual conference on “Current global scenario and psychologists” started at Bara Gali summer camp, University of Peshawar on Monday.

Psychologists and educationists from across the country and abroad are attending the conference, says a press release.

Speaking at the inaugural  session of the conference the  university’s  vice- chancellor Dr Zulfiqar Hussain Gilani said the human race was suffering from multi-dimensional crises like terrorism, population  explosion,  denial of human  rights,  religious intolerance and social injustice. He said at present knowledge was expanding rapidly, adding that certain advanced technologies had added numerous changes in the field of psychology. He said psychologists’ role became more evident as ideology had been taken over by media. He said psychologists should work for the people.

Mehr Bano, chairperson of the department of psychology said in the current situation the role of psychology had been recognised and could promote cross-cultural understandings.
