Canal breach inundates 40 houses

KHAIRPUR, July 8: The Sathiyo Wah developed a 50-foot breach near Soomar Buriro village, Kot Diji taluka, here on Monday.

Some 40 houses were inundated besides a mosque and a school and standing crops were also affected.

The villagers, along with the Kot Diji police, were trying to rebuild the breach but till the filing of this report, the breach could not be plugged.

The villagers said the breach had occurred due to the inefficiency of the irrigation officials.

SHIFTED: The two police officials, who were injured in an encounter with bandits on July 1 near Ahmedpur, were shifted from the Sukkur Civil Hospital to Karachi by a helicopter in a critical condition.

The injured were Keti SDPO Mir M. Imran Khan Awan and Gulu Siyal police station SHO Basheer Mangi.
