MITHI: Plea to stop hunting of rare birds, animals

MITHI, July 7: The notables and social circles of Nagarparkar have appealed to the governor, the chief secretary, and the secretary, Wildlife, Sindh, to take notice of the unabated poaching and hunting of peacocks, falcons, antelopes, deer, sand grouse, rabbits, houbara bustards, cranes, and other rare species in Thar at the hands of both local and non-local influential people in connivance with the personnel of the Wildlife Department.
The villagers of Hirani Veri, Dhandhar, and Sakarvero told journalists in Mithi the other day.
They said that strict measures be taken by the Wildlife Department to protect all endangered species in Thar.
They alleged that though the personnel of the Wildlife Department, Nagarparkar, have been posted to take action against the violators of game laws but they did not do so as they received huge amounts in bribes and gifts from the poachers.
They said that since Wildlife Department officials were turning a blind eye the endangered birds and animals of Nagarparkar were being destroyed.
Giving an example regarding the apathy of the Wildlife Department, Nagarparkar, they said that two game watchers visited the Hirani Veri village a few days back to conduct an inquiry against the councillor for his involvement in poaching and killing peacocks. However, the game watchers hushed up the matter after eating rich food at his house.
