Nazim, others booked for ransacking Hesco office

By Our Correspondent

THATTA, July 6: Hesco officials lodged an FIR against 24 people, including a Nazim, when a rally of the aggrieved power consumers turned violent and some of the participants ransacked the office of an SDO in Sujawal on Saturday.

Witnesses said that the Nazim of Union Council, Sujawal, Mohammed Ismail Memon, led about 200 people who staged a demonstration in front of the office of the SDO, Sujawal, while they were on way to the office of the executive engineer, Kotri.

The protesters intended to apprise the Kotri official of their problems, including inflated bills and the inconvenience facing the consumers.

Some of the participants, the witnesses said, stormed the SDO’s office and went on rampage causing damage to fixtures and furniture there. The Hesco staff had to scale the compound walls to run to safety. None of them was, however, injured.

Criticizing the attack, Sohail Sheikh, the SDO, claimed that the outrage was the result of his campaign against power thieves.
