KARACHI, July 6: Almost the entire lane of Napier Quarters, near Shafi Masjid has been receiving contaminated water for the last one month owing to seepage of sewage into the pipeline.
People residing in Kamil Lane and Sarafa Bazaar of the locality complained that although they have been getting stinking water for the last one month, the KWSB’s concerned officers have not managed to rectify the lingering problem despite a number of complaints lodged with them.
They urged the city Nazim to order the concerned officials to expedite the repair work of leaking sewerage line, otherwise some serious abdomen diseases would spread in their locality in an epidemic form.
They said that in the absence of piped water they had no choice but to consume sub-soil unhygienic water at the cost of their health.
Complaints of getting contaminated water have also been received from Landhi’s Muslimabad, Bilal Colony, Muzaffarabad Colony and Sherpao Colony; Shadman Colony’s Maria Homes; Liaquatabad’s Jeay Shah Noorani Colony, North Karachi’s Sector 11-A and Sector 5-C-One.
Residents of the affected areas regretted that although they had been getting contaminated water for the last one week or so, the concerned officials of the KWSB have not yet bothered to rectify the fault responsible for contaminated water.
Acute water shortage also continued to persist in Bhadurabad’s Makki Centre, Federal B’ Area’s Block 2 (Hussainabad), 7 and 14.
