KARACHI: BIE to hold special exams for leftover students

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 5: The Board of Intermediate Education plans to hold special examinations for about 20 students belonging to the Science group, enrolled at two educational institutions, during the current month, said sources in the board.

It was learnt that the students in question, including those of a higher secondary school of Korangi, were not allowed to appear along with the mainstream candidates of HSC annual examinations as their examination forms were not received by the board on time.

In the case of one institution, it was said that forms were delayed as there was some dispute regarding its affiliation with the board, while at another institution, the concerned clerk had failed to processed the exam forms despite collecting money from the candidates.

The theory papers of the annual examinations for Intermediate Arts, Science and Commerce groups’ candidates, held in two phases, finished on July 4, while 80 per cent of the practicals have also been finalized. The first result, most probably of Home Economics group (Part-II), is also likely to be released by July 10, added the source.

A senior BIE official said that the board was preparing for the special examination of leftover candidates in question, and it was likely that it would commence by July 20. A centre would be set up at the BIE building for the purpose, he informed.

To a question, he said that the leftover candidates were already taking their practical examinations. He said that the results of the special examinations would be announced separately, as assessment and compilation of mainstream examinations results was already in progress.

The official hoped that the first major result of the Science Part II annual examinations would be declared within the current month. “We will be able to deliver the results of all examinations as per the timeframe already decided by the competent forum,” he added.

RECOGNITION: The BIE secretary, Prof Zaheer Khan Paras, has directed the principals of such government and private institutions whose renewal of recognition/affiliation period for the academic session 2001-2002 has expired, to collect the required pro forma from the board latest by July 15, and submit it back to the board by July 25, positively.

In case of failure, the institutions would not be allowed to get their students enrolled with the board. Consequentially, examination forms would also not be entertained for the session 2002-2003, said a BIE notification.
