KARACHI, July 5: Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University Prof. Dr. Zafar Saeed Saifi has asked the representatives of the teachers’ body not to interfere in the administrative affairs of the institution.
He said this in a meeting with the president and general secretary of Karachi University Teachers’ Society on Friday.
Prof. Saifi told them in plain words that the KUTS has no right to come up with any demands. “Yours is a welfare association and not a CBA”, he further stated.
A university statement said that the representatives of KUTS on the occasion announced withdrawal of their demand for removal of the registrar of Karachi University.
They maintained that this demand was made as a result of some misunderstanding and that after the removal of the misunderstanding, the demand to this effect has been withdrawn.
The KUTS representatives informed the VC that their organization had no intentions of interference in the administrative affairs of the university.
However, they maintained that the KUTS is concerned over what they termed the victimisation of teachers.
Prof. Saifi told the KUTS representatives in plain words that there is no victimisation of the teachers and that there is no truth in allegations to this effect and that all the steps were being taken in accordance with the rules and regulations.
He said this was why no decision of Karachi University administration had been challenged in the court.
According to University statement, the Registrar, Aqil Burney, told the KUTS representatives on the occasion that a member of the executive committee of the organization had misbehaved with a senior faculty member, Prof. Dr. Saira Hameed, but the KUTS had remained silent on the issue.
During the meeting, the KUTS also announced withdrawal of the demand of leave encashment because the condition of maintenance of attendance registration was not acceptable to it.
A university statement said that the meeting ended in a pleasant atmosphere and later the representatives of KUTS participated in the monsoon plantation drive and got photographed with the Vice- Chancellor.
The statement also said that the door for dialogue are open but the doors for demands have been shut.—APP
