KARACHI, July 4: Three men and a woman died in road accidents in the city on Thursday.
Two men and a woman died when the taxi they were travelling in collided with a recklessly-driven truck in Landhi. The police said that a speeding truck (JT-5157) smashed into a taxi (JL-5975) near Ghallamandi chowrangi in Landhi No.6. The truck hit the taxi so hard that it was pushed 50 yards away from where the collision took place.
Najamuddin, aged 75, was taking Amjadi Begum, aged 60, who had suffered a heart attack to a hospital in a taxi, driven by Mohammed Shamim, aged 25, when the accident took place.
Najamuddin died on the spot. Amjadi Begum and Shamim died on their way to hospital. The taxi was smashed.
The police impounded the truck and arrested the driver, identified as Mohammed Aslam. It could not be ascertained whether the truck driver possessed a driving licence.
A trailer (PT-0790) knocked down a motorcyclist in Nazimabad No 7. The motorcyclist, Azfar Ali Siddiqui, aged 27, died on the spot. Siddiqui, resident of Taqi Centre, North Nazimabad, worked as a sales officer with a pharmaceutical company.
Enraged people stopped the trailer, dragged out its driver and gave him a severe beating.
The police arrested the trailer driver, Mohammed Riaz, and impounded the vehicle.
Azfar’s body was sent to a hospital for post-mortem.
