One killed in ‘encounter’

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 2: One bandit was killed and another injured in, what the police termed, an “encounter” in district East late Tuesday night.

The Saudabad police claimed that two bandits were robbing a Union Council Nazim, Saadat Ibrahim, and his family members, who were on their way home.

The police said as the robbery was being committed behind the KESC office in “A” area, a police party, on a routine patrol, arrived and challenged the bandits, who fired at it.

According to the police, the fire was returned and both the bandits were injured.

One of them, along with a TT pistol and two magazines, was caught while the other made his escape good. Some of the booty — jewellry, cash, etc. — was also recovered from the bandit who was caught.

The police took the injured to the Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre.

The medico-legal officer of Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre declared him dead on arrival.
