A Cantonment Board employee, who sought anonymity, said the residents had beaten up the anti-encroachment staff. He admitted, however, that the Board had not notified them about the action.

Police said Rasoolan Bibi was shot dead in her sleep by Nazir Ahmad, Bashir Ahmad and Amjad, whose sister she was accused to have killed by burning three years ago.

Rasoolan and her daughter Fatima were convicted by the sessions court but acquitted by the High Court.

MOTORCYCLE SNATCHED: Two armed men took away a motorbike from one Kalb-i-Abbas on Kot Momen-Moazzamabad Road last evening.

PO ESCAPES: Zafar, a proclaimed offender, reportedly managed to escape, breaking the police cordon at Bekh Lurka village. The police have registered a case against Ahmad Nawaz for harbouring the proclaimed offender.

ASI Muhammad Riaz and Constable Arif were escorting the man to City police station after securing his remand from the court. When they reached Fawwara Chowk in Katchery Bazaar, he made away in handcuffs.
