KARACHI: Govt earmarks Rs110m for science, IT development


KARACHI, July 2: The Sindh government has set aside a sum of Rs110 million for the approved as well as unapproved schemes for promotion of science and information technology in the province.

The budget books show that the government has earmarked Rs14 million for the approved scheme of establishment of information technology centre, Rs5 million for e-government pilot project phase-I, Rs4.750 million for imparting IT training to government employees phase-I, Rs4.680 million for setting up an IT infrastructure for the city government Karachi, Rs20 million for completion of civil works and modification of the KCC-III building to house IT university, Rs0.370 million for e-government agency specific and general application (website on geo-data), and only Rs0.25 million for the approved scheme of IT training to students and jobless graduates.

The unapproved schemes and the allocations are: establishment of an IT university in Karachi Rs6.250 million, rural community internet centre Rs2.500 million, provincial portal websites for Sindh government Rs3.430 million, district management information system Rs3.800 million, block allocation for IT bills and bandwidth expenditure Rs13 million, IT centres in Sindh education department Rs4.870m, establishment of IT centre at Cadet College, Larkana, Rs1.850m, establishment of Indus Technology Park at SITE, Karachi, Rs6 million, establishment of Larkana IT Park Rs6.250m, and e-government for finance department Rs10m.—PPI
