KARACHI, July 2: Berthing activity at the Karachi port on Wednesday was maintained on the higher side as all the foreign flag vessels were berthed soon after their arrival at the outer anchorage.

Eight ships, which included Kota Wangsa, Winco Feeder, PONL Malindi, MSC Rosa-M, and Global Power to offload and load containers, Rojarek Naree to offload fertilizer, Pinta, to unload furnace oil, and Ievoli Shine to offload chemicals were berthed after the sailing of five.

The berth occupancy was, therefore, maintained well above the daily average at 67 and 75 per cent both at the oil piers and dry wharves respectively.

The ships, which sailed out were led by Bunga Masempat, Winter Star, Seevetam, Stolt Sakra and Ievoli Shine, while Pretty River, MSC Rosa-M and Winco Feeder are due to sail out on Wednesday.

Owing to brisk berthing, the cargo handling activity at the wharves was fairly large totalling 78,496 tons comprising 21,154 tons of export cargo including 3,439 tons of rice and 57,342 tons of import tonnage.

The following ships are due on Wednesday: L.T. Loading, Sima Kija and Lanka Mahapola, with containers.
