GUJRAT, July 1: A man and his wife were shot dead at their home in Kanuwali village of Kunjah on Monday over old enmity.
Police said nine men, including Shaukat, Riaz and Asghar, entered Ashraf’s house and fired at all those present. Ashraf and his wife, Naheed, died on the spot. His uncle, Saleh, sustained critical injuries.
The bodies have been sent for autopsy.
TOKEN TAX: A Dawn survey has revealed that a large number of commercial vehicles here have not paid the token tax for up to five years.
The tax evasion, allegedly in connivance with Excise and Taxation Department officials, is estimated to cost Rs2 million per annum to the government. Sources said some officials in the token branch showed commuter vehicles as loader vehicles on department’s record. The ETO concerned said strict action would be taken against the officials found guilty of any irregularity. He vowed to recover the tax from evaders within a couple of weeks.
SHOT: One Mubashir of Sheikhupura was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Kunjah area. The police have yet to register a case.
STRAY BULLET: A youth was killed in Kula Chore village of Jalalpur Jattan on Sunday when a bullet fired in jubiliation by some friend of the bridegroom in a marriage procession hit him. The deceased was identified as Qadeer. A case has been registered against 10 people including the groom, Abdur Rahman.
