Bar condemns killing of lawyer

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, July 1: The District Bar Association has condemned the killing of a lawyer and his friend on Pasrur Road.

Advocate Muhammad Ashraf Bhinder and his friend, Dr Shaukat Hayat, were killed by some terrorists the other day.

At a condolence meeting held here on Monday under the presidentship of Bar president Mian Maqsood Ahmad, a unanimous resolution was adopted demanding early arrest of the killers.

The meeting decided that the Bar would observe a strike if the accused were not arrested within a week.

AGREEMENT: An agreement between residents of Khiali and the reconciliation committee reached here on Monday.

According to the agreement, the case registered against residents of Khiali would be taken back and the arrested persons released, while paper and board manufacturers would not run their factories till the installation of pipes for smoke emission.

The committee was formed by the district Nazim following the incident.

Residents of Khiali and adjacent residential colonies had taken out a protest procession against paper and board manufacturing millowners some two weeks ago. Millowners got registered a case against 138 people, including a Nazim, Naib Nazim and five women, under the Terrorist Act.
