PESHAWAR, June 29: The Pakistan People’s Party has rejected the Political Parties (amendment) Order 2002, and termed it another dictatorial assault on politics and democracy by the rulers.

Speaking at a workers’ meeting at the party secretariat here on Friday, PPP provincial chief Khwaja Mohammad Khan Hoti said this order was aimed at depoliticising the country and bulldozing the democratic forces in the society.

He said the PPP would continue with its struggle to overcome the political vacuum and the increased sense of deprivation among the people. The new political parties order was repugnant to the spirit of the Constitution, he added.

Mr Hoti said the PPP had yet not entered any alliance with any political party, but dialogues on different issues were under way with various parties. He rebutted the reports about joining an alliance with certain political parties.

He urged the party workers to make preparations for the party meeting scheduled for July 5, the day Gen Ziaul Haq staged a coup against the elected PPP government of in 1977. The PPP would observe the day as black day, he added.

Mr Hoti advised the workers to mobilize the people and prepare themselves for the upcoming elections.

The PPP would sweep the elections, he claimed.

Khursheed advocate, Ayub Shah, Israr Khan, Zahir Shah, Khizer Hayat, Mohim Afridi and Behramand Tangi were present on the occasion.
