KARACHI, June 29: The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has failed to develop as many as 19 big plots allocated in Karachi for establishing bus termini.

According to sources, the defunct KDA had handed over a number of sites to former KMC for establishing bus termini. The matter was processed and the competent authority accorded approval for setting up bus stations at these sites on top priority basis but no action had, so far, been taken.

The sources said plots were available in nine city areas: one plot (ST-7, Block I) in Clifton, three in Korangi Township, two in Hawkesbay township, five in Shah Latif Town, three in Orangi Township and four in Baldia Township.

The elements with vested interests in the land department of CDGK were hampering establishment of the bus termini, the sources said referring to a recent row between Gulshan Town administration and transporters operating buses between Karachi and Quetta.

Referring to availability of four plots for bus termini in Baldia Town, the sources said the officials, in connivance with the transporters from Balochistan, had shelved the matter.

The scheme was ripe for implementation and it could rid the city of illegal bus stands and termini, they added.—APP
