DERA GHAZI KHAN, June 28: Civil Lines police arrested seven residents of Fareed Abad Colony on Friday for protesting against suspension of water supply to the area. The protestors were released later on the intervention of the district coordination officer but water supply was not restored.

Dozens of residents of Fareed Abad Colony blocked Jampur Road for about two hours, chanting slogans against tehsil Nazim and tehsil municipal administration. The protestors said water supply to the area had not been restored despite the lapse of a month.

The police arrested seven people — Muhammed Qasim, Bashir Ahmad, Noman Niazi, Abdul Karim, Main Sanaullah, Imtiaz Joya and Noman Joya. The DCO later called them to his office and got them released.

Earlier, the residents had protested on Wednesday, blocking the road burning tyres.

The tehsil council is currently holding its budget session at Fort Munro.

A majority of the citizens in Dera Ghazi Khan city are now purchasing drinking water from private companies.
