Duststorm turns power off for 12 hours

KHAIRPUR, June 26: A heavy duststorm, followed by light rain, which started at 4:00am and continued till 8:00am on Wednesday morning, affected Gambat, Kingri and Khairpur talukas of the district.

The electricity supply remained disconnected for 12 hours. The people faced difficulties as electricity and telephone systems gone out of order.

Many electricity poles, main lines, transformers and telephone poles and lines fell down due to the storm.

Some 300 towns and villages were affected by the storm.

Many trees fell down on roadsides on the Ahmadpur-Khairpur Road due to which vehicular traffic remained suspended.

The telephone poles fell down in Ahmadpur and Sadar Ji Bhatiyoon areas. The exchanges of both the areas remained disconnected from the surrounding telecom system.

In Khairpur town, two electric poles, main wires and transformers fell down on a road near Garhi Pul due to which electricity remained suspended for a long time.

In Hadal Shah area of Kingri taluka, main electric lines also fell down. The electricity lines also fell in Khaskheli Mohalla of Pir Jo Goth. In Gambat and Drib Mehar Shah too, the main electric lines fell down.
