KARACHI, June 25: The Sindh home department has requested the registrar of the Sindh High Court to initiate a judicial inquiry into the custodial death of a trader.

The trader was allegedly deprived of Rs300,000 by the officials of CIA Police, Karachi.

The IGP has also been requested by the home department to suspend two SIs and two ASIs of CIA Karachi for their alleged involvement in the custodial death of Muhammad Ali alias Usman, a trader from Kandhkot.

In a letter to the registrar, the home department stated that the request for a judicial probe had been made in a petition stating that SI’s Abdul Haq Qureshi, Rao Muhammad Anwar and ASI’s Agha Shamshad and Malik Muhammad Aslam apprehended the deceased and deprived him of Rs300,000.

The Sindh High Court has been requested to probe and ascertain the circumstances which led to the arrest of deceased Muhammad Ali alias Usman by CIA officials and determine the cause of his death through a District and Sessions Judge.

The home department has also requested to find out persons and officials responsible for the death of the deceased in direct or indirect way and to recommend the action to be taken against the responsible police officials.

The inquiry officer would submit his report within four weeks, the letter added.—PPI
