Polls to be held on time: Nisar

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, June 22: Federal Minister for Information, Nisar Memon, has renewed government’s commitment to hold general elections in October assuring that transfer of power would take place shortly after the polls.

Replying to questions at a news conference here on Saturday, the information minister denied reports that elections would either be delayed or postponed.

“Elections would be held between Oct 7 and 11 as announced by the president,” said the minister adding that the president will give up his chief executive’s post only after the polls and retain the other two offices — i.e. President and the Chief of the Army Staff.

The also said that constitutional amendments would be made public in July to assess input from the stakeholders, including the general public.

Replying to a question he said that there were no restrictions on holding public meetings, but prior permission is required.
