15 villagers caught for power theft

GUJRANWALA, June 20: Over 15 people were caught red-handed on Thursday while stealing electricity by a raiding team of Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) in Lohianwala, Aroop, Gagiwali, Mafiwala and Bismillah villages.

Acting on a tip-off that some domestic and commercial consumers were stealing electricity, the team of Aroop sub-division conducted raids and severed their connections after catching them red-handed. The raiding team also removed their meters, other equipments and issued them detection bills.

Later, SDO Sheikh Muhammad Nazir lodged FIRs against some consumers for threatening members of the raiding team.

PRISONER DIES: A prisoner was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his barrack here on Thursday.

Nadim of Ghakkhar town, involved in dacoity and robbery cases, was also stated to be an addict. Jail authorities handed over the body of deceased to his heirs.

TWO CRUSHED: Two drivers were crushed to death by a speeding truck on the Sheikhupura Road here on Thursday.

NLC trailer crew Umer Hussain was rectifying the headlights of his vehicle with the assistance of rickshaw driver Muhammad Akram when the truck (GLT-9555) hit them. They died on the spot.

Sabzi Mandi police have registered a case against the absconding truck driver and are investigating.

WORKSHOP: A workshop for the teaching staff of educational institutions was held in Model Town here on Thursday.

Around 120 teachers attended the workshop which was organized by Jamiatul Banat Higher Secondary School.

The teaching staff was informed about changes in the examination system and other revolutionary steps taken by the government for the promotion of education.

Senior headmaster of the Government Jinnah Memorial School, Chaudhry Riaz Ahmad, and educationist Sheikh Aslam delivered lectures on education reforms.
