DADU, June 20: The members of the district council, Dadu, through a resolution urged the government to construct small dams in Kachho and Kohistan areas and the western part of the district to store rain water.
The resolution was passed at a session of the district council which was held on Thursday. Twenty other resolutions were also passed.
The district council session was presided by the district Naib Nazim, Sadaqat Ali Jatoi.
The members passed another resolution that property tax should be abolished in the district, and the officials of the excise department should stop the recovery regarding it.
ROBBER KILLED: A robber was killed on the spot and another injured seriously in an encounter with the villagers in the Khoondhi village, Mehar Taluka, on Wednesday.
Four armed robbers barged into the house of one M. Ismail Jhatial and held all the family members hostage at gunpoint. They then looted cash and other valuables.
Mr Jhatial offered resistance. He raised an alarm on hearing which the villagers arrived at the spot and surrounded the area.
Soon the villagers and robbers started exchanging fire as a result of which the leader of the robber’s gang, Aftab Patoojo, was killed on the spot. Another robber, Moharram, was injured seriously.
The villagers captured the injured robber, while two unidentified members of the gang managed to escape.
The villagers handed over the body of the killed robber to the police, while the injured robber was taken to the CMC Hospital under police custody.
The Mehar police registered an FIR against the robbers.
Johi Barrage: Sindh Irrigation Secretary Mir Mohammad Parhiar has said lakhs of acres of barren land in the western part of Dadu district will be cultivated and 240 cusecs water will be supplied to the Johi Canal from RD-77 of MNV drain after the completion of the Water Lift Pumping Scheme.
He was talking to newsmen and growers here on Wednesday.
The irrigation minister said the work on the Water Lift Pumping Scheme would be completed by August which, he said, would develop agricultural and economic system of Khairpur Nathan Shah and Johi talukas.
He said 12 waterways, including Bego Dero, Mir Mohammad, Kambhar, Pusia, Thariri, Phulji and Chhinni, originating from Johi Barrage, would get more water from MNV drain through 12 pumps of the scheme.
Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro is scheduled to inaugurate the work of the water lift pumping scheme on June 22.
