KARACHI: NED senate meets today

KARACHI, June 19: A meeting of the senate of NED University will be held on its campus on June 20, vice-chancellor Abul Kalam said on Wednesday.

Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro, who is also the chancellor of the public-sector universities in the province, will preside over the meeting.

The main items on the agenda include annual report of the institution and the budget estimates for the fiscal year 2002-03.

Abul Kalam said the university’s budget for the current fiscal year was to the tune of Rs182 million and the estimates for the next financial year were expected to be Rs15 to Rs20 million.

It was stated that of the current fiscal year’s budget of Rs182 million the NED University was supposed to receive about Rs96 million from the funding agency — the University Grants Commission — but it got only Rs79 million and the rest of the amount was raised from the resources of the university.

At the meeting, the vice-chancellor will also present the highlights of the annual report.—APP
