ISLAMABAD, June 19: The government has exempted the customs duty on raw materials and components imported for the manufacturing of capital goods or engineering goods in the budget 2002-03.

The CBR issued a notification amending the SRO435 issued on June 18, 2001, to this effect.

According to the notification, the exemption would be available on the import of raw materials, which were not manufactured locally and meant primarily for export.

Under this facility, the goods must be supplied to the export sector or to exempt industrial units, projects and agencies.

The notification reads: “The following amendments shall be made and shall be deemed to have always been so made, namely- in the aforesaid notification: a) in the preamble after the word “meant” the words and comma, “primarily for export and” shall be inserted and b) in the table in S. No 3, i) in item (xii), for the words, letters, figures and commas “for the industries/sectors/companies in tables of SRO400(I)/97, dated the 31st May, 1997, SRO28(I)/98, dated the 17th June, 1998 and SRO 369 (I)/2000 dated the 17th June 2000” the words, letters, figures and commas “in table of SRO 367(I)94, dated the 9th May, 1994 shall be substituted and II) in items (xiii) after the word “machinery” the words “and capital goods or engineering goods” shall be inserted.”
