SAHIWAL, June 18: Three people were killed while scores were injured, five of them seriously, as heavy rain accompanied with windstorm hit Sahiwal on Tuesday.

The three-hour downpour resulted in flooding of city streets and bazaars with rainwater. Most kutcha abadis were under knee-deep water till late on Tuesday night.

The worst-hit localities included Kot Khadim Ali Shah, Kot Allah Din, Kot Farid Khan, Sharif Colony, Lakkar Mandi, People’s Colony, Jhaal Road and Dispensary Road.

Allah Bakhsh and his wife, Sakeena, were killed while their three daughters and two sons were injured when the roof of their house caved in in Akbar village.

Around a dozen children were playing in the rain near the wall of a house in Chokhandi village when it collapsed. As a result, Aslam died on the spot while five others sustained injuries.

A child was injured in Chak 65/4-R. Arif was sitting in the veranda of his house when its roof caved in.

The injured were taken to hospitals where the condition of five of them was stated to be serious.

Several residents of Kutcha Abadis were injured in collapse of walls and caving in of roofs.

Electricity supply also remained suspended in most parts of the city.

KILLS HUSBAND: A man was poisoned allegedly by his wife and her lover in Chak 20-EB here on Tuesday.

Sughran had relations with one Mukhtar, a friend of her husband, Akram. She along with her lover poisoned Akram and threw his body into fields.

Police have arrested Sughran and Mukhtar.
