KARACHI, June 18: The inspector-general of police, Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah, has stressed the need that police personnel should rush the injured to hospitals immediately after any traffic accidents instead of recording their statements on the spot to help save human lives.
Speaking at the concluding session of a seminar on Road Safety on Tuesday he reminded the police personnel that statement of an injured person can be recorded once he received first-aid after reaching a hospital. “Saving lives is more significant than recording statements,” he added.
He said efforts were on to transform Sindh police on the pattern of the motorway police so that it can be turned into a public service organization.
The IGP assured the organizers of the workshop that Sindh police would extend every possible help in removing encroachments from passage of motorway.
Referring to the topic of road safety, he said it had been a matter of concern that as compared to the developed countries, including UK, Sweden, Germany, Australia and the USA, the ratio of traffic accidents per 10,000 vehicles was on higher side in Pakistan.
He lamented that expansion of roads in Pakistan has not been in conformity with the number of vehicles added annually.—PPI
