Tea prices up

MOMBASA, June 18: Kenyan tea again fetched high prices this week, with traders on Tuesday attributing the upward trend to strong general demand.

A kilogramme of best BP1s sold at between $1.90 and 1.95, up from between 1.85 and 1.90 dollars traded last week.

Brightest PDUSTs showed price gains of up to 23 cents, selling at between $1.78 and 2.00 per kilogramme, compared with between $1.73 and 1.77 in the previous auction.

Best DUSTS fetched the highest rates in this category in three months, trading at between 2.08 and 2.33 per kilogramme, the ATB report said.

But brighter Pekoe Fannings fell marginally, with a kilogramme fetching between $1.70 and 1.84, compared with $1.71 and 1.86 last week, the report added.—AFP
