KARACHI, June 17: The Customs authorities arrested five foreign women at the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport and recovered 200 capsules, containing 2,085 grams of heroin from their possession.

The official said on a tip-off the Customs sleuths intercepted five women passengers, identified as Cheng Lai Fun, a Singaporean national leaving for Lome via Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Airlines; Naphla Saleh, a Tanzanian, who was leaving for Johannesburg by Emirates Airlines; Yanka Ademeso, a Guinea Bissau national leaving for Dakar via Dubai; Sinethemba Innocentia, a South African leaving for Cape Town via Dubai with her accomplice, Zukisa Patricia, also from South African.

Although there was nothing objectionable in their baggage articles, their initial radiological tests confirmed the presence of heroin-filled capsules secreted inside their body cavities.

They were, therefore, referred to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to initiate recovery of heroin-filled capsules from their body cavities.

This led to the recovery of 200 capsules, containing 2085 grams of heroin powder.

All the five accused women were arrested under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act 1997, and were being kept at the Customs House.—APP
