KARACHI, June 17: Police shot dead two alleged bandits in Buffer Zone on Monday in what they claimed an encounter.

Police said two men were roaming around near Sabir Pakwan Centre in sector 15-A/2 in Buffer Zone. Someone from the nearby shops informed police about their suspicious activity. When police arrived there the two suspects opened fire at police while trying to escape.

Police returned the fire injuring both the suspects. The injured suspects were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced one of them dead on arrival.

Sources at the hospital said the other suspect was referred to Jinnah Post- graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where he died.

Hospital sources described both the suspects as unidentified. Police, however, identified them as Ali Mohammed, aged 35, and Waryam Khan, aged 40.

Police claimed to have recovered two pistols from their possession.

Bandits shot two policemen to death in Pipri. The bandits got away with Rs1.3 million.

Police said bandits shot dead two policemen, Ramazan and Rafaqat, carrying Rs1.3 million which were meant for the salaries of railwaymen.

Police said two railway employees, accompanied by the two policemen, carrying Rs1.3 million left City Railway Station at 6.30am by Shah Latif Express. When the train arrived at the marshalling yard junction near Bin Qasim, the policemen got down from the train and proceeded towards the marshalling yard.

Four bandits, who were also in the train, followed the policemen and opened fire on them. The bandits escaped with the cash in a waiting car, police said.

A young man was shot dead in Garden area.

Police said unidentified men shot dead Dawood, aged 25, a watchman working at Ramazan Garden, in the early morning. The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Dawood’s brother Gul Zaman named two suspects in the FIR.

Both the victim and the alleged assailants belonged to Jalalabad, Afghanistan, police said.

RECOVERED: Police recovered two young girls, whom a man had kept in illegal confinement, from a house in Sachal police limits on Sunday night. The girls were recovered in a raid on the house. The girls are 10 and five years of age.

Police said one of the girls slipped from the house in Mohammed Khan Goth, Malir. She informed neighbours about their ordeal and abuse at the hands of Raza Khan. Neighbours informed the area councillor who informed police.

Police, accompanied by the area councillor, raided the house and recovered the girls. Police said the 10-year-old girl told police the details of the abuse she suffered at the hands of the man.

The suspect, Raza Khan, during interrogation, also confessed to the crime.

Police said the younger girl was missing from her house in Baldia Town. Police were looking into the background of the other girl.

BODY FOUND: The body of an elderly woman, stuffed into a gunny bag, was found in Clifton.

Police said the body of a woman, who was in her early 60s, was found in Shireen Jinnah Colony, Clifton, Block-1.

The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem. Sources at the hospital said the body bore torture marks.
