Seven die in road accident

KOHAT, June 16: Seven people, including three women, were killed and 14 others seriously injured when a pick-up in which they were seated was hit by an oil tanker from behind on the Indus Highway near Jarma bridge on Saturday evening.

Two people died on the spot and five succumbed to their injuries in the Liaquat Memorial Hospital, Kohat, late on Saturday night. The condition of two injured is stated to be critical, according to hospital sources.

The overloaded pick-up (C-4072), going from Kohat to Lachi, was picking up more passengers near Jarma Bridge when a Bannu-bound oil-tanker (K-3718) hit it from behind.

Tanker driver Azam Khan was arrested by the Lachi police.

The dead were identified as Gul Rasool (patwari), Saifur Rehman, Gul Mohammad (Afghan refugee), Rehana Bibi, Zareena Bibi, Abdul Wahab, and Habib Rasool.

The injured are Gul Shireen, Resham Gul, Mohammad Zada, Fazal Hakeem, Irfanullah, Abd Ali Shah, Mohammad Tahir, Chambel Khan and his son Zar Gul, Farooghuddin, Khial Marjan, Naseem Bibi, Adil Khan, and Mohammad Rafique.
