Seven students convicted

TOBA TEK SINGH, June 13: Seven college students of Gojra were convicted of murder of a professor on Thursday by a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court.

Shahzad Ahmad Kahuja, the son of Gojra Bar Association former president Akhtar Kahuja, and Sharafat Husain were sentenced to death while Zahid Imran, the brother of former Olympian and Pakistan hockey team coach Tahir Zaman, Muhammad Afzal, Sajid Ali, Muhammad Shahid and Naveedul Haq were handed down life terms.

The convicts had on April 19, 2000, tortured to death Prof Abdul Latif while coming out of a mosque after saying prayers for restraining them from cheating in the BA examinations.

The case was transferred for trial from Faisalabad to Rawalpindi court. — Correspondent
