QUETTA, June 13: Pakhtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai on Thursday urged all political parties and alliances to rule out any role for the armed forces in politics.
Speaking at a Seminar arranged by Balochistan Jamaat-i-Islami, he said political parties should shun their differences and get united for blocking army’s interference in civilian government’s affairs.
“All political parties should announce not to support any move to give a role to the army in politics,” Mr Achakzai said and added that it was the responsibility of the political parties to determine army’s role.
He said: “We have no differences with the army, but those who violated the Constitution should be punished.”
Mehmood Achakzai, who is acting convener of Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement, termed establishment of Security Council against the integrity of the country and said that in future army’s interference in politics would not be tolerated.
He said the rights of all the nationalities should be protected to save the country from further destruction and all institutions, including army and intelligence agencies, should be made accountable to the elected parliament. he said the people should also be taken into confidence regarding internal and external policies.
He said that it was the right of the Kashmiri people to struggle for self-determination.
Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Secretary-General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri criticized the role of army in politics and said that unless the interference of the armed forces was stopped, the country could not be saved.
He said the generals responsible for violating the Constitution should be punished.
Maulana Haideri rejected the government’s Kashmir policy and said that the military rulers had compromised on Kashmir as they did on Afghanistan under US pressure.
Balochistan JI chief Maulana Abdul Haq said all the political parties should jointly struggle to protect the country in case of any aggression.
