KARACHI, June 13: A teenaged girl committed suicide in her house in Gulzar-i-Hijri on Thursday.

The police said that Myra, aged 16, a class X student, shot her self in the head after an argument with her mother in their house at Goodearth Bungalows in Gulzar-i-Hijri.

The police said that earlier she had a quarrel with her brother Faisal. The brother and the sister were studying when a quarrel took place between them. She went into her room and shot her self with her father’s pistol.

The girl’s father, Rafiq, is a retired air force official.

Family members informed the police of the incident. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

ROAD ACCIDENT: A 13-year-old boy died in a road accident in Chakiwara on late Wednesday night.

The police said that Nadeem was run over by a speeding water tanker on Mirza Adam Khan Road. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where he died.

The police claimed to have arrested the tanker driver, identified as Awwal Khan, and impounded the vehicle (JB-9875).

CARJACKING: Twenty-two vehicles — eight cars and 14 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, the police said.

Four cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen.

Three motorcycles were hijacked. Eleven others were stolen.

The police also claimed on Thursday to have recovered four cars and six motorcycles in the city.

ROBBERIES: Three robberies were committed in the city on Thursday, the police said.

Mustafa lodged a complaint at Jamshed Quarters police station that two men robbed him of cash.

Manzoor Ali lodged a complaint at Rizvia police station that four armed men barged into his house and got away with cash and gold jewellery.

FOUND DEAD: A young man was found dead near the Railway Club in Frere police limits on Thursday.

The police said that the dead man was identified as Mohammed Sohail, aged 25, resident of Abbotabad. He was identified from an identity card recovered from his pocket. It appeared that he died of poisoning as his body had turned pale.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre for post-mortem. The autopsy report had been reserved till the receipt of the histopathological and chemical report, sources at the hospital said.

DIES: Mehtab Ahmed, aged 40, who was shot and wounded in a drive-by shooting in Garden police limits on June 11 died in Civil Hospital on Thursday.

Two men, Ishaq, aged 28, and Mehtab Ahmed were injured when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on them when they were sitting at a shop in Shoe Market.

FIRES: A big fire broke out in a textile mill in SITE on Thursday evening.

Fire brigade officials said that the fire broke out at Sanaullah Textile Mills near Siemens Chowrangi in SITE where more than 10 fire tenders were trying to put out the fire. The fire had not been put out when this report was filed.

The mill workers were evacuated by fire brigade officials.

In another fire in Shershah, a large quantity of cotton bales in a godown on Jinnah Road was gutted.

Five fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the fire.
