DERA ISMAIL KHAN, June 12: Killing of a young man in police firing here on Tuesday sparked off protest as the area people took to the streets demanding registration of a case against policemen involved in the incident.
Sources said Mohammad Khan and Khalid Khan Ustrana were on their way to Musa Zai Sharif, 65km from here, on a motorcycle when a patrol party of Chowdhwan police station asked them to stop. However, due to faulty brakes, their motorcycle could not stop near the police party. Suspecting them of being criminals, the police party opened fire on both of them.
Both the riders got injured and were brought to the police station where they were kept for hours. In the meantime, the condition of Mohammed Khan deteriorated and he died before any medical aid could be provided to him.
Later, the body and the injured, Khalid Khan, were brought to the DHQ Hospital here. The news of Mohammed Khan’s death spread within moments and thousands of people reached the hospital. They protested against the highhandedness of the police and chanted slogans against the law enforcers and local government.
The protesters also blocked the main Circular Road for three hours. They demanded registration of a case under sections 302/324 PPC against those involved in the incident.
Tehsil Nazim Fatehullah Khan Miankhel also reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitating people.
He assured the protesters that the police staff responsible for the killing would be brought to justice.
