COTTON RESEARCH: The future of federal government’s local cotton research centre hangs in balance.

Dawn learnt on Wednesday the government could not provide funds for further research due to financial stringency. Last year, the research centre developed two new varieties of cotton BH-147 and BH-16 with long staple besides several other varieties.

The research centre’s total farm area was about 46 acres and it used to have a laboratory having an equipment of worth Rs3.8 million.

However, no research has been done on the new cotton variety.
