Labour laws being updated

ISLAMABAD, June 12: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has directed the ministry of law, justice and parliamentary affairs to consolidate and update the labour laws in accordance with the current needs.

Official sources said that the ministry had received the directive from the president to scrap all the laws relating to the employment of labour, their salary structure and other benefits, nature of contract, etc.

There are a total of 36 laws in the labour sector which the ministry plans to consolidate into six laws.

Sources said the law ministry in consultation with the labour ministry will soon start work on these laws.
