SUKKUR, June 12: At least 10 people were killed and many others injured in two separate clashes between rival tribesmen along the Sindh-Balochistan border over the last 24 hours.
Eight tribesmen were killed when Chakrani Bugtis and Qalandarani Bugtis clashed in Baggo Bugti village and neighbouring Manjhi Galoto village using fire-arms, rockets and bombs.
Trouble started late on Tuesday when Chakrani Bugtis killed a dog which had bitten a member of their tribe after sneaking into their village. To avenge the dog’s killing, Qalandaranis crossed into the Chakranis’ village and killed a donkey.
The action sparked off shooting from both the sides which continued for hours and at one stage both the side reportedly used rockets and bombs which caused damage to several houses in the two villages.
Four persons had lost their lives before dawn on Wednesday while shooting and bomb attacks continued intermittently throughout the day.
Four more deaths were reported by sunset raising the toll to eight. An unspecified number of people sustained injuries in the clash and the area was virtually sealed off by the armed tribesmen.
Among the dead was a notorious dacoit, Chaker Khan Chakrani, who carried a head-money of Rs2 million set by the Sindh and Balochistan governments.
However, no official has so far confirmed his death.
Some of the other deceased were identified as Khair Jan Chakrani, Murid Chakrani, Mrs Dino Chakrani, Laloo Qalandarani and Dhani Bux Qalandarani.
Both the tribes took away their injured and buried six persons who died on Tuesday night.
