KARACHI: JI to contest polls from MMA platform

KARACHI, June 12: The Jammat-i-Islami (JI) on Wednesday announced that it would contest the general elections to be held in October from the platform of the Muttahida Mujlish-i-Aml (MMA), in Sindh.

The decision to that effect was taken at a meeting of the JI Parliamentarian Board for Elections held in Karachi with Amir JI Sindh, Asadullah Bhutto, in the chair.

Asadullah Bhutto, talking to newsmen after the meeting, said that the JI had started its election campaign and the meeting of the Parliamentarian Board had reviewed the names of the candidates to be nominated for the elections.

He said the JI had decided to raise three points which needed to be addressed before the polls, ie, appointment of a new chief election commissioner, induction of an honest interim government and publication of error-free electoral lists. He claimed that almost all the political and religious parties had agreed on those three points.

He said that elections under the present EC would cause apprehensions regarding fairness of the elections.—PPI
