KARACHI, June 12: Begum Tazeen Faridi, president of the All Pakistan Women’s Association, said Begum Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan would be remembered as the first Pakistani woman to organize and launch a movement for the uplift of the women of Pakistan.

She was also the first Muslim woman to be appointed as ambassador, the first woman provincial governor of the country and the first Muslim woman to receive the UN Human Rights Award, Begum Tazeen added.

In a statement on the 12th death anniversary of the founder president of APWA, Begum Faridi said the vigour and singularity of purpose with which she championed the cause of women’s rights all her life would continue to inspire people.

“It was a privilege and an honour to know her and work with her. As a homage to her, we, the women of Pakistan, pledge to continue her mission despite all obstacles,” she said.—PPI
