Protest against water shortage

Published June 11, 2002

LANDI KOTAL, June 10: Tribesmen of Jamrud in Khyber Agency blocked the main Landi Kotal-Jamrud Road the other day, in protest against the disconnection of power supply to various government tube wells in the agency.

They have been facing severe water shortage for the last three days, as Wapda authorities had disconnected the power supply to force the locals to install power meters. The blockade, which continued for about three hours, was lifted after the assurance from the local political authorities that the supply of electricity to the tube wells would be restored, to overcome the water scarcity in the area.

They also resumed supply of potable water to the worst-hit areas by arranging power generators for the tube wells.
