KARACHI: Man gets 14 years’ RI

KARACHI, June 10: An additional district and sessions judge, Farooq Ali Channa, sentenced on Monday a man to 14 years’ rigorous imprisonment on two counts.

Sikander Ali was prosecuted for attacking and injuring Dr Nazir Ahmed, a medicolegal officer at Civil Hospital, on May 13, 1998.

He was booked under sections 324 and 336 of PPC by the Eidgah police.

The judge sentenced Sikander to seven years’ RI each on the two counts and imposed fine totalling Rs25,000. He would have to undergo an additional one month’s simple imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.

An additional district and sessions judge, Aslam Shaikh, sentenced Habibullah to five years’ RI with a fine of Rs5,000 for injuring Kabir Ahmed.

The accused had stabbed the complainant on December 14, 1999. He would have to undergo an additional three months’ RI in case he defaulted on the payment of fine.

The same court sentenced Mushahid Ahmed to three years’ RI with a fine of Rs1,000 for injuring Mohammed Husain on June 23, 2000 in Defence.

He would have to undergo an additional three months’ RI if he failed to pay the fine.

The special anti-narcotics court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, sentenced a drug pusher to six years’ rigorous imprisonment.

Suchcha Khan, arrested on Aug 14 last year near Toll Plaza by the Gadap police, was also fined Rs50,000.

He would have to undergo an additional three months’ simple imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.
