BADIN, June 7: On the call of the Aabadgar Action Committee, a strike was observed in Tando Bago, Khoski, Pingrio, Ghulam Shah and other towns of Badin District on Thursday against dearth of water in the eastern canals and distributaries of Kotri and Sukkur Barrages.

The youngsters forced some of the shopkeepers to close business and join strike in Shadi Large, Khoski, Tando Bago and Pangrio, where all shops and trade centres remained closed.

The protesters carrying placards and banners marched on the roads and burnt tyres and blocked various roads, as a result vehicular traffic remained suspended on Naokot-Khoski, Pangrio-Hyderabad, Tando Bago-Badin roads for three hours.

Later, the protesters from Pangrio, Khoski, Ghulam Shah and Khalifo Qasim gathered in the taluka headquarters town of Tando Bago where a big rally was held which culminated outside the office of the SDO, irrigation.

The growers constituted a 12-member committee to fix responsibility of “artificial” water shortage. The committee members threatened with self-immolation in front of Badin District Nazim office if water supply was not restored by June 10 in Shadi Small Wah, Shadi Large, Defence Minor, Dubni Minor, Bahadur Wah and other distributaries of Tando Bago and Shadi sub-divisions.
